What are the Ecodesign and Energy Labeling Regulations?
The Ecodesign and Energy Labeling regulations apply to all new corded vacuum cleaners manufactured after September 2014. You may see some products on the market after September that were engineered before the new regulations were put in place. These vacuums are compliant with EU and UK legislation and all BISSELL vacuums are covered under the warranty outlined in the user’s guide. In order to comply with these regulations, vacuum cleaners are required to meet specific performance criteria. These criteria include energy efficiency (kWh/annum), dust pickup on carpeting & hard floor crevices, and input power (watts). Under the 2014 regulation, the annual energy consumption cannot exceed 62 kilowatt-hours per year, and the input power required by the vacuum cannot exceed 1600 watts.
Why have these Regulations been put in place?
The regulations have been introduced to drive improvement in vacuum cleaner design as it relates to energy usage, and to create standardised performance metrics for vacuum cleaners. In doing so, it allows for consumers to make more informed decisions when selecting a vacuum. The energy label will be familiar, as it has been used on refrigerators, dishwashers, and washing machines since the early 1990’s.

Ecodesign regulations provide greater transparency on the cleaning efficiency, sound, filtration quality and annual energy usage of the products in the market. The Eco rating label allows for additional information to aid you in your purchase decision.
