Family fun: movie night in
Family fun: movie night in

Movies are a great way to spend time with the family while relaxing. Watching movies at the cinema is fun, however, doing a stay-at-home movie night can be just as fun and even more comfortable. So why not turn your lounge into your own private cinema? Here are a few suggestions to make it the most comfortable cinema in the world:

4 must haves for a great movie night in:

  1. Blanket
  2. Extra Pillows
  3. Decent Movies
  4. Snacks & Drinks

Setting up:

Make it yours

Rearrange the lounge so that everyone can sit comfortably to watch the movie. You can even invite a few of your friends for even more fun. Close all the curtains so that it’s nice and dark so everyone can focus on the screen. Alternatively, if you have little children, keep a lamp on in the corner so they can see where they’re going and what they’re doing

Essentials for added comfort

Use extra pillows to create a relaxing sitting place for the duration of the movie. Many people start off sitting on the floor and become rather uncomfortable after 20 minutes. Grab all your favourite pillows and blankets, snuggle in and enjoy the movie in comfort.

Picking a movie:

There are a few ways that you can select a movie including:

The Family Favourite: Families around the world have a sentimental, standard film that they all enjoy. Fall back on this reliable favourite for a guaranteed good night.

Current Hit: If your kids have been begging you to watch a particular film, movie night selection process solved! Pixar and Disney have become masters at creating kids movies that adults can enjoy too (think Ice Age, Despicable Me, Frozen). If your kids are a little older, check the age restricted options that may be available on your satellite package, Netflix or DVD rental store.

Have a Turn: If squabbling ensues every time a movie needs to be selected, give everyone a turn to pick a movie. It’s a great way to be exposed to films you may not have picked yourself and everyone gets a chance to satisfy their taste.

Treats for movie night:

It’s safe to say that treats are the second most important factor when it comes to movie night at home. A firm family favourite is the “Make Your Own” ice cream stand. Buy the following ingredients, decant them into small bowls and allow the family to create their own dessert:

Peanuts or Sweets
Mini marshmallows
Chocolate
Chopped fresh strawberries or banana
Chocolate Sauce

Easy chocolate sauce recipe:

  • Melt 100gms of chocolate in the microwave or hob.
  • Add 50mls of cream
  • Add 5gms of unsalted butter
  • Mix together = YUM!

Other movie night standards

  • Popcorn (Salted, caramel or butter)
  • Fizzy drinks
  • Pudding
  • Chocolates
  • Chips
  • Pizza
  • Sweets
  • Schedule an intermission

If you have selected quite a long movie or have little children who find it difficult to sit through an entire movie, schedule an intermission. This way conversations can be had; legs can be stretched, and everyone can enjoy the movie.

Stay home and enjoy quality, family time for a wonderful night in.
