Your Bathroom Cleaning Checklist
We've created a handy bathroom cleaning checklist, to help you keep your bathroom squeaky clean! Keep reading for a list of daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning jobs for your bathroom. There's also a useful printable checklist for you, to keep track of your bathroom cleaning chores!
Daily Tasks
Wipe and dry the shower screen after use
After you've used the shower, always wipe down the glass screen or doors, and then dry with a clean towel or cloth. This will help to prevent water marks and limescale build-up.
Wipe and dry the sink
At the end of the day, give your sink a rinse and wipe, then dry with a clean towel or cloth. Remember to also wipe away any toothpaste or makeup that might get spilled!
Clean the toilet
Use a toilet brush to give the bowl a quick clean, then clean the seat with anti-bacterial spray. You don't have to scrub your toilet every day, but this quick clean will keep your bathroom smelling fresh, and free from nasty germs.
Weekly Tasks
Wipe down tiles
If you have tiled walls, then spray them with an all-purpose cleaner and wipe them down to remove dust and dirt. If you do this at the start of your cleaning routine, you don't have to worry about drips!
Clean the bath or shower tray
One a week, you'll need to give your bath or shower a thorough clean, to keep them free from dirt and grime - after all, you can get yourself clean in a dirty bath!
Clean the sink area
Giving a daily wipe down helps to keep your sink clean, but you'll still need to give it a thorough clean once a week for a spotless finish. You can use a multi-purpose cleaning spray to clean the sink itself, and then polish your taps with a stainless steel cleaner. Make sure you dry the sink after you've cleaned it, to prevent water marks.
Polish any glass or mirrors
You've probably got at least one mirror in your bathroom - give any mirrors or glass surfaces a good polish once a week, to keep them looking shiny. You can either buy a glass cleaning spray, or make your own using one part water and one part vinegar in a spray bottle (add a couple of drops of your favourite essential oil if you don't like the smell!)
Deep clean the toilet
Using bleach or an anti-bacterial cleaner, wipe the flush handle or button, the outside of the cistern, the lid and the toilet seat. Then give the rim and the bowl a thorough scrub with a sqirt of bleach and a toilet brush. After cleaning the toilet, make sure you put all the cloths you've used through a hot wash.
Wash towels and mats
Put all your towels, face cloths, bath mats and rugs in the washing machine (check the labels first!)
Empty the bathroom bin
Remove any rubbish from your bathroom bin, and add a new bin bag. To save you time on your next clean, put a couple of extra bags at the bottom of the bin.
Clean the floors
Always clean your floors last, so you don't have to worry about drips or dust. You can either vacuum and then mop your floors, or you could choose a floor cleaner that vacuums, mops & dries at the same time!
Monthly Tasks
Soak the shower head
Your shower head will build up limescale over time, especially you live in a hard water area. To remove any build up inside, soaking the shower head overnight in a mixture of half water and half vinegar. Rinse with water after soaking and poke any remaining limescale out of the jet holes with a needle.
Unblock your drains
Once you get a blocked drain, it can be very hard to clear. The best way to prevent a blockage is to regularly clean out your drains, so that anything that is starting to build up is flushed away. You can buy drain cleaning liquid, but these tend to contain highly toxic chemicals. For a safer, but just as effective clean, pour half a cup of baking soda down your drain, followed by half a cup of vinegar. Wait for 10 minutes for the mixture to do its work, then pour a kettle full of boiling water down the drain to flush everything away.
Clean grout lines
Eventually, the white grout lines between your tiles can start to look yellow and unpleasant. To get them looking good as new, use the BISSELL SteamShot to clean and sanitise the grout using just tap water!
Clear out and clean your cabinets
It's easy to forget about the insides of your cabinets and cupboards - it can be case of "out of sight, out of mind"! Once a month, take everything out of your cabinets, and give the inside a good clean. This is also a great opportunity to look through everything you've collected in your cupboards, and clear out what you don't need.
Unclog vents and extractor fans
Extractor fans and air vents are magnets for dust. Get up on a step and remove any dust that has collected, to help keep your bathroom free of allergens.
